Do you ever feel like you are working and working, but the results just don’t reflect the time you have put in? Or perhaps, you feel like you do so much, however at the end of the day you have a sense that you didn’t actually accomplish a lot? If you answered a ‘resounding’ yes to both, you are not alone.

Many people spend most of their days jumping aimlessly from one task to another, trying to get as much done as possible, however, there really is a more effective way to work and get organized with your time…

Getting organized will allow you to reap the rewards for the time and effort you put it. You see, and I am sure you know this already, but it is not about the amount of time you work, but the way you work and what you are working towards that counts.

Here are 6 simple steps that you can take to get more organized now and transform your results in only 30 days…

1. Targeted direction

You need to have targeted direction of where you are going, otherwise you will naturally tend to prioritize based on feelings and vague ideas of what is best. Start by setting your goals for the next 30 days. What is it that you would love to achieve by then?

For example; how many new clients would you like to have?
What do you want to have finished or progressed on?

Setting goals for 30 days ahead instead of 6 months or a year makes them more attainable and this adds to your motivation to carry out the action required. Goals also help to steer your actions closer towards your goals.

2. Action steps

Write down everything you need to do to achieve the goals you have written down. Let’s say you want 5 extra clients for example, what do you need to do to get those 5 extra clients? Do you need to attend a certain number of networking events, make a certain number of phone calls, set up a certain amount of meetings? You get my point.

Write all the things you can do in the way of action steps to take.

3. Schedule

Schedule your routine tasks, action steps and prioritize them all. Now that you have a list of new action steps to take, you want to schedule them into your agenda. If you just have the list and randomly select things to do from it each day, you are missing the idea.

Planning what you need to do is key to managing your time effectively and getting what you want done.

First schedule the routine tasks into your agenda. These are of course, the things you normally do every day which won’t change. Like meetings, lunches, checking emails (yes, this regular activity should be blocked off to a specific time in your agenda if possible).

Take into consideration that you need to estimate the time it will take to carry out these actions as accurately as possible. You must also leave time in the day for unforeseen crises, you should only schedule 75% of your working hours.

Lastly, prioritize your actions and schedule them into your agenda.

4. Identify Challenges

We all have challenges, no one is the exception. If you want to move past your challenges instead of letting them get in your way, start by creating a plan to overcome them all. This will be one of your biggest supports when you need to move forward.

Identify the normal challenges that you usually face. What is it that normally gets in your way? Write them all down.

5. Overcome Challenges

The next step is solution based, come up with different ideas on how you can overcome the challenges you might face. What normally happens is that when we are challenged, we tend to want run away from the challenge, ignore it, hide or give up. Neither of these will support you in reaching your goals.

Having a plan will give you the guidance; support and focus you need to face the challenge with confidence and overcome it. It is a plan to support you when you need it the most.

6. Consistent and Inspired Action

Take consistent and inspired action each day. What do I mean? Consistency is key to getting the results you want. Most people get disillusioned when they don’t see results immediately or perhaps lose motivation and go back to their old ways.

Think about losing weight, consistency is key right? I don’t think you will reach your goals as quickly as you could if you eat well one day and not the other then go to gym for a week and then take a week off. It is the same with time management and reaching your business goals.

Inspired action means that you do the things that you want to and not because you feel you have to. There is a very different energy between the two. If you feel like you have to do something compared to really wanting to do it, you will lose a lot of motivation and you might even feel reluctant. This will directly affect the way in which you work.

If you don’t want to do something and you feel like you have to, find the value in what you are doing and you will find the motivation. When you can clearly see how this will benefit you, how can you not be motivated?

Better results are certainly possible; you are the one who decides!
