Being organized and planning my time is something I have always loved; it has always been a part of who I am. It started when I was a young girl, I remember how I loved to organize my room or set small goals and plan how to achieve them; perhaps I was a little excessive for that age. I wasn’t always this way however, in my twenties, after leaving home, things definitely got more chaotic.

Suddenly, it didn’t matter if my flat was untidy, if I had been procrastinating for months or if I felt stressed every day. I was young and I was going through so many things. Looking back at that time, what was going on inside me, was directly affecting my ‘external world’.

To cut a long story short, it was only when I dealt with what was really going on inside my mind, that my relationship with my time started to change and return to what it used to be. I really had to tackle certain issues and look deep inside to identify what was going on. I was procrastinating because I had a lot of fears, low self esteem and I was certainly lacking the motivation and direction I really needed at that time.

I am not going to go into depth, but the point is that there was clearly a direct connection between my time management and what was going on at a deeper level and I needed to desperately address these issues if I wanted a happier life.

Let’s skip forward a few years to where I am now, working in the two areas that I am extremely passionate about – organizing and personal development. From my personal and working experiences, from what I have read, studied and seen, I believe more than ever, that time management cannot be dealt with on the surface level alone, (for the majority of people).

If you really want to get more organized, finally stop procrastinating and have more time, you need to work on two areas. You need to work on building your knowledge and skills as well as with your attitude and habits. Said in another way, you must develop skills and learn the best techniques suited to you, and also, deal with what is going on inside.

It is only once you are able to identify what is going on at a deeper level that you are able to transform your results. To manage your time effectively, you need to manage yourself and this does not come from the outside.
