Who doesn´t want to be successful in life? Whatever success means to you…
Most people hold a secret ambition of attaining success in life, unfortunately only very few people are really able to convert their ambition, their dreams and true potential into success. Many people may feel that they have come across a great idea and they are confident of their abilities and talent, but for some reason, they are unable to turn that vision into a reality. What is it that essentially separates the successful ones from the could-have-been-successful ones in life?
Many people associate success with good luck, but this is just a weak hearted approach to console oneself. Instead of attributing the success of people who have made it to random factors like fortune and luck, one could perhaps do better by understanding some of the main barriers to achieving success in life. There are many ¨principles of success¨ to be learnt, below are some brief examples that will sensitize and alert you to some of the most common mistakes made.
- Not being brave enough
“Fortune favors the brave” goes the popular saying. If you research into the history of leading personalities from different walks of life who have been successful, you will find that they all took risks in their lives to obtain what they wanted. Getting out of your comfort zone can be tough, but that is the only way you will stand out from the crowd and attract opportunities that have the power to bring about the results you desire. Do not be scared of failure, for failure is a temporary stepping stone that leads to future success.
- Quitting in face of obstacles
Obstacles and hurdles are to be always expected. Each one of us has to face difficulties in life, be it at work, career or personal, however you can´t simply quit when you are challenged, when you feel like the obstacle cannot be overcome. Be prepared for the obstacles and challenges that could arise when you set out to achieve your goals and get the support if needed to move past this. It is not as important what happens to you as how you deal with it that is more important. When you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place. Remember always – “Winners don’t quit and quitters don’t win”.
- Expecting quick results
When you set out on a path to achieve success, you need to resolve to being firmly committed to achieving it. If you expect early results then your efforts will not bear fruit and you will be left discouraged. Be patient and strive towards your goal with focus and consistency. Success that comes rather early in life leaves early too. Just as you plant a fruit-bearing tree and wait for years to get the fruits of your effort, so must you be prepared for a very long journey before you achieve success. The elevator to success is out of order. You’ll have to use the stairs…. One step at a time.
- Giving in to distractions
It can be tempting to give in to activities that provide temporary pleasure or relief but they can distract you from your focused goal. Successful people never lose sight of their target. They are prepared to go that extra mile and work that extra hour. Staying focused and directing all your efforts towards to your desired outcome.
Success has a different meaning to everyone and whatever success means to you, remember that 80% of the reasons people do not achieve their goals are internal and not external, take time to reflect inwards on your success as well as outwards!
To your Success!
Remember – Never let success go to your head and never let failure go to your heart
