We all want to achieve what we desire effortlessly, easily, and with no challenges. Challenge for many people means suffering in some way, pushing yourself really hard and embracing the pain. For those people; it’s understandable that they would run away from challenges, nobody wants to ‘suffer.’

However, it is this perspective about challenge that actually keeps people from achieving their dreams or taking action on their goals. Think of a time in your life when you grew the most, an experience/s where you achieved something important to you; were you challenged in any way? I’m sure you were. When you can see that the challenges you have been through have actually been gifts; you will start to welcome challenges; not run away from them.

The road to get you from where you are now to where you want to be is not going to be a straight, easy and effortless one; otherwise you would be at your destination already. It is who we become along the way of achieving our goals that make them fulfilling, not the actual goal itself.

So on your road to your destination, you will have bumps in the road, different choices you can take, traffic jams, accidents, and road works, etc. In other words, different challenges to work through and these are the exact challenges that you need to face and overcome in order to achieve this goal. Challenges should not only be expected, but they should be welcomed because it means you are closer to your goal and growing as a person.

Here are 3 tips to try on when facing your challenges; in addition to changing your perspective around them.

1. Believe

If you don’t believe you can do it, you won’t do it. It sounds simple, but its really profound. There are two types of people; there are those who need to see results before they believe in something and there are those who believe and then they see the results. Which one are you? If you need to see before you believe something, you are doubting yourself or what is possible. Doubt stops us and creates fear. What would it take to start believing in what you want before you see any results?

Think about the times in the past when you have achieved something, I’m positive you had a lot of certainty somewhere there that gave you motivation and strength to keep going. If you are lacking belief, ask yourself: Why? What needs to happen for me to feel more certain about this and believe it will happen and stop doubting?

2. Focus on the outcome

What you focus on expands. When you focus on the outcome and how great you will feel and what it will mean to you, you will stay motivated. If you stay focused on everything that might scare you or not happen, you will not push through. Recently, I walked across fire at the incredible Unleash the Power Within event of Tony Robbins. This was one of the most incredible experiences of my life, and the key was to focus on the outcome, not the fire that I was going to walk across. It is the same with our challenges, what will the outcome of the challenge bring you – don’t focus on the difficulty of the challenge.

3. Take massive action in spite of fear

The more you think of something, the longer it will take to do it. Have you ever heard of analysis paralysis? The more time you spend thinking about the ‘challenge’, your mind will come up with all the reasons why you shouldn’t move forward to keep you in your comfort zone. You have to take action so you can prove to yourself that is ok; and the fear you are feeling is mostly in your mind. Even a little bit of action builds confidence and supports you in embracing challenges. Most of the fear is in our mind and not true at all, sadly, we listen to it. The best way to start is to take one step at a time, no matter how small. If you take the first step, the next step will reveal itself. You don’t need to know all the steps, just the next one.

Don’t forget that if you have something you want to achieve or change, you will attract the exact challenges that you need to overcome in order to achieve that desired change or reach that goal.Welcome it, dance with fear and embrace challenges; use the tips above and you will get there!
