‘I don’t have time!’ – Probably one of the most misused AND at the same time most often used phrases of the 21st  century! We are using it as an excuse for everything. We use a ‘lack of time’ as a reason to not look after ourselves, we don’t have time to exercise, to eat healthy, to meditate, the list goes on.

And it’s not just in our personal lives, but our work too. We don’t have time to plan a week, we don’t have time to strategize or to do this or that, it doesn’t matter how much we want it, a lack of time seems to be a good enough reason these days! 

Actually, it just seems to be an excuse, and there’s not a lot of validity to it. We all know that there are 24 hours in the day and we need to really look around us at the different ways that people manage to get the most out of this time. You can clearly see that it’s not about the time, but how people are using the time.

See, the fact is that it’s not time that we’re lacking, but the tools to manage it effectively. This is really, really key to productivity. We have to stop using the excuse that I don’t have time AND we have to stop believing that we don’t have time, it starts from there. 

Our beliefs influence everything! If we don’t believe we have time we’re coming from a place of lack and scarcity, and so then basically the decisions that we make in our business and the actions that we take are coming from a place of scarcity. If we feel like we have a lot of time, we will do very different things with our time than if we feel like we don’t. In fact, you will do much better things because you’re planning from a place of abundance. 

So the first step is to really own it and realize that it is not a lack of time, but rather you don’t have the tools yet to manage it effectively. This is actually great news because once you get the tools to manage your time, you will notice how you are able to free up hours a week. Then hours every single day, and then you will know what it really feels like to leverage your time. 

You have to break from the mindset that you don’t have time and that you have to do everything yourself.  That’s principle number one in productivity!

So how do we get out of the mindset

STEP 1: The first thing is watching our language. 

What we say to ourselves influences us more than we know,  what we say to others doesn’t, but the words that we used to our self is everything! In fact, a belief is nothing but certainty in a repeated thought, something you’ve probably said to yourself over and over again.

As an entrepreneur, you’ve gotta stop saying ‘I don’t have time to do things’! You’ve gotta stop letting this be your excuse. Just do not allow yourself to say it,  even if you feel like you don’t have time to do something. So step number one, start believing you do have time and you will start to find ways to make things happen, it really is science.

Get out of your own way, it starts with watching the language you use because your reality is built on what you say! 

STEP 2:  Lead your mind, don’t follow!

Force yourself to only think of solutions, ways to make things happen. Don’t allow yourself to let time be an excuse, remember how many people play multiple roles in their life and own various businesses and they don’t complain. They have a different mindset clearly which has allowed them to live this way, and it started somewhere.  It is never a lack of resources, but rather a lack of resourcefulness. 

Start to watch your language and change it if it is limiting you. You want to condition this new mindset before you move onto the next level of productivity with strategy.

Remember, You have to create the right mindset for change to be easy.

If you do this, you will notice how your mind will eventually switch from saying, ‘I don’t have the time’, to naturally starting to look at how you can find the time and make things happen and you will make more happen in your life. 

So the tools are out there, the tools are available, but you’ll never be able to also apply the tools if you don’t even believe you have time to learn, never mind implement them. Improving your productivity starts with managing your emotions and your beliefs around time effectively.
