How often do you procrastinate because you just don’t feel like doing something? Do you find that you have a deep desire to change what isn’t working but you just can’t take the first step? It is really perplexing, confusing and downright frustrating sometimes, when you want to change but you seem to hold yourself back.

As humans, we naturally resist change; we want to stay in our comfort zone, that is where we feel safe and in control. When you start to change, you will feel a strong pull to go back to what is comfortable and this must be expected, it is a natural tendency that we have. Unfortunately though, change doesn’t happen in our comfort zones, change happens when we step out of our comfort zone and we create new possibilities for ourselves.

You need to put results before comfort if you want to achieve what you desire.  When a rocket takes off, it uses the majority of its fuel and energy on take-off alone. It is similar with change; the first step is always the hardest and it will require a lot of effort and energy, but it gets easier. I love what Emerson once said about change –  That which we persist in doing becomes easier – not that the nature of the task has changed, but our ability to do has increased.

You need to increase your ability to change. Listen to your own thoughts and words and when you hear yourself say ‘I will start tomorrow’ or ‘I just can’t change’, remember, that the only limits in life are those you set yourself.

Anything is possible, if you put the effort required into getting the results you want first, and you put your comfort second!
